Inside The Detective's Notebook
Monthly briefing for founding members
I’ve been very fortunate in January to swap a cold, dismal climate for ten days in the glorious Caribbean sunshine, which was amazing! It was my first trip to the region and I visited nine islands, including St Lucia, St Kitts, Barbados and Antigua. Having taught about the history of piracy at Oxford Brookes Uni, I kept an eye open for any traces of the area’s swashbuckling past, but unfortunately I couldn’t find any authentic evidence – I’ll just have to go again!
Since my return, I’ve been catching up with my detective work. I’ve uncovered some new areas of research and information, including one of the most significant anti-government conspiracies in the early nineteenth century, which was foiled by the Bow Street Runners, as a good example of early detective policing, and a ‘new’ Victorian detective who was tasked with the investigation into the Charles Bravo case. I’ll be using all this material in future projects but here’s a sneak preview…
