Monthly briefing for founding members
Following my intentions for this month, as stated in my previous update for founding members, I have managed to stay at my desk for the whole of May, without being tempted away to foreign climes. It has been a very productive month – thanks in part to the very showery weather here in the UK.
Mostly throughout May, I’ve been working on my new book, The Mysterious Poisoning of Charles Bravo, which is almost ready for publication. I shall be sharing progress with you on that project, which is now nearing completion. Also, I’ve been investigating rural crime history, notably through the memoirs of William Chadwick, who was the chief constable of Stalybridge, a town in Lancashire (which is now in Greater Manchester). His experiences are slightly different from the sleuthing work of Victorian detectives in large cities, and his recollections offer an interesting insight into what his everyday work as an investigating officer was like…
