For my birthday I was lucky enough to spend a weekend in Paris and, during my visit, I couldn’t resist a visit to the Musée de la Préfecture de Police (I actually went on my birthday!) as I had always wanted to explore the museum. It was the perfect celebratory treat for a crime historian!
Created in 1909 (35 years after Scotland Yard’s iconic ‘Black Museum’), by former Préfet de Police and politician Louis Lépine to showcase items displayed at the 1900 Exposition Universelle, the museum is a veritable treasure trove of more than 2,000 crime and policing related artefacts and artwork.
